The Ninth Wave – Ode to Nature
Sound art after Ludwig van Beethoven
Written and directed by Stefan Winter – Composition after Ludwig van Beethoven: Fumio Yasuda<\/p>\n
Nine contemporary compositions based on Ludwig van Beethoven in the interaction of living paintings, dance and sound deal with the destruction of nature, neo-colonialism and generally human behavior and its effects. Nine individual nine-minute sequences, self-contained but highly interrelated, form a trilogy in three colors. Fantastic images reflect on bodies that become canvases, allegories, oversized living sculptures. The work has a concrete trigger: the tragedy off Lampedusa on October 3, 2013. Memories of Beethoven’s Ninth, the meaning of the last movement, chosen as the European anthem, of G\u00e9ricault’s Raft of the Medusa and Dante’s Divine Comedy awaken. The ninth wave is sound art about the beauty of nature and the tragedy of man in it.<\/p>\n
